Frequently Asked Questions
Botox - Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Botox? Botox is an injectable therapeutic muscle-relaxing
agent used for the reduction of:
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Crow's feet (horizontal lines around eyes)
What Are the Benefits of Botox? Botox reduces or eliminates wrinkles
without surgery.
- No sedation or local anesthetic required
- Corrects underlying muscles as opposed to facial skin peels or skin
re-surfacing
- Reduces horizontal forehead lines
- Reduces frown lines
- Minimizes crow's feet and laugh lines
- Provides dramatic effects
How Does Botox Work? A few drops of Botox are injected with a tiny
needle into the muscle responsible for the wrinkle or line. When injected
with Botox, the nerve impulses are blocked from reaching the muscle immobilizing
it from contracting. This gradually relaxes and softens the skin and
muscle allowing the wrinkles to often disappear.
Who Is a Candidate for Botox? Physically healthy, emotionally stable
men and women with realistic expectations may decide to have this
procedure. Most are 30 years of age or older. Occasionally younger
people may decide to have this procedure to aid in prevention of premature
wrinkles from appearing.
Botox should not be used during pregnancy, if you are nursing, or if you are
taking certain medications. Make sure the doctor is aware of all current
medications you are taking.
What Results Can I Expect? Dramatic results are often seen within 3-14
days. However, the results in most cases are temporary and last only 3-6
months. Results vary from person to person. You will notice a
gradual fading of the effects. At this point, you may decide to return to
our office for your next treatment.
How Safe is Botox and Are There Side Effects? This procedure is one of
the safest available for reducing wrinkles and lines. Botox has been used
safely and effectively for over 10 years. In the amounts used for wrinkle
reduction, the side effects are temporary and localized to the injection
site. Possible side effects are:
- Lumps, reddening, or bruising at injection site
- Temporary drooping of the eyelid
What Is the Recovery Time? Patients should be able to resume their
daily activities immediately.
Are Botox Injections Painful? A very fine needle is used for Botox
injections. Some patients report minor discomfort or a temporary sting for
a few seconds. After the injection, there is usually no discomfort.
What Do I Have To Do Before the Treatment? You should not take aspirin
or ibuprofen medications for 1 week prior to the treatment.
Are There Special Instructions Afterwards?
-
Exercise the treated muscles for a few hours after the
treatment.
-
If you get a headache (as some people do for a few hours after the
treatment), you may take Tylenol unless otherwise advised by your
physician.
What Does Botox Treatment Cost? The cost ranges from $250-$750
depending upon the number of sites to be treated and the depth of the wrinkles
or lines.

will work with you to achieve your most optimal results.
